Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist (specialist interest in inherited cardiac conditions and arrhythmia management)

Interests / expertise / research in CHD

Dr Jennifer Shortland works with children with congenital heart disease.  Her main clinical interest is in patients with inherited cardiac conditions including cardiomyopathy and inherited arrhythmias.  Dr Shortland also has an interest in arrhythmia management including those patients with pacemakers and defibrillators and provides paediatric pacemaker clinics in both Bristol and South Wales.  Dr Shortland carries out implantable loop recorder procedures and drug challenges.

Current role and experience

Dr Shortland is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children with outreach pacemaker clinics at the University Hospital of Wales. 

Dr Shortland trained in paediatrics in Bristol following 2 years of working in paediatrics in New Zealand. 

Her paediatric cardiology training was undertaken at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.  This was followed by 2 years of sub-speciality training in Canada focused on the management of inherited cardiac conditions.

Interests outside of work

In her spare time, Dr Shortland enjoys spending time outdoors in the beautiful south west countryside with her husband and two children.
