Published 13th January 2023 - Surgical cancellations and long waits for surgery
The SWSW CHD Network is working closely with patient representatives and staff to monitor the situation with regards to surgical cancellations and long waits for surgery. We know this is distressing for patients, families and also staff. We have been made aware of the concerns of patients and families who have undergone repeated cancellations by our patient representatives and clinical teams. We understand the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital are informing patients and families of action taken to address the situation. The situation reflects the pressure on paediatric intensive care beds nationally due to higher than usual numbers of admissions due to Winter viruses and high vacancy rates nationwide in specialist nursing. Steps are being taken to prioritise clinically urgent cases. Cases are being reviewed regularly by senior consultants. If you are concerned about your health or a child's health and feel their symptoms are changing please contact your clinical team.
