Our Assistant General Manager for Cardiac services at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is running the London Marathon to raise money for the Alexander Jansons Fund, part of Cardiomyopathy UK.
'I will be running my first ever marathon this month, having been fortunate enough to get a place in the London Marathon. This is a great personal challenge for me but also an opportunity to raise money for something close to me too. In 2013 I was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called myocarditis, a virus which attacks the heart. After a stay on the cardiac high dependency unit at Southampton General Hospital, I luckily made a near full recovery. Alexander Jansons Fund has pledged a minimum of £80,000 per year to fund research and activities relating to myocarditis. This research will save lives in the future.'
